We went to see Madeleine's show last night and were more than a little
surprised at her lack of professionalism. She didn't seem to give a sh*t.
She was like an embarrassed amateur, not singing anything very
interestingly and staring at her fingers on the fretboard as if hoping
something worthwhile might happen. It never did. I enjoyed her latest
album but after last night's show I won't hear it the same way anymore.
it's her job to be comfortable enough up there so that the audience can at
least relax. Then concentrate on the music. By the way, she got a
standing O. Go figure       -Doug

I went to see Madeleine's show last night at the Salt Lake City Art Festival and was also dissappointed.  During the first 15 minutes of the show, noise from a distant stage distracted Madeleine.  I think she would have walked off had the crowd not been so enthusiastic.  When the other band stopped playing, Madeleine became obsessed with the sound of her guitar and the sound mix.  Despite repeated assurances from the crowd, she could never settle in and just play.  I expected much more from someone who spent so much time busking.  She continually turned her back on the large crowd and returned to the mic so late that her phrasing was lost.  It was almost as if she was at a practice session.  My wife thought Madeleine had never played a concert before.  My brother thought she was a primma donna.  I was dissapointed that we never really got to hear her talent (although the backup band did manage to play well).  She quit ten minutes early but by that time the considerable crowd had shrunk by half.

Exactly. She kept looking to the sound guy, visably annoyed about her
guitar and then seemed to fiddle around nervously like someone who
doesn't really play well and is afraid of hitting a wrong note. And your
comment about her back continually to the crowd and being late to the
mic was right on the money. Well, at least there's one other person who
saw and heard what I did. The standing ovation by half the crowd after
our show was making me wonder if I was nuts. The concert was part of a
surprise anniversary weekend I planned for my wife, who hadn't heard of
her, so I was a little extra pissed off that she didn't deliver. C'est la vie.
