This show was a mess. The drummer was heavy handed and not up to the
pianist or gibson guitarist. Madi made us wait 45 minutes and sung flat
throughout the evening. The band was not tight or clicking. A below average
outing. I wonder what bad vibe made them so late for the stage. Have a
listen at what I taped on Youtube. Here is Blue Alert. Also very little stage
presence from Madi..

You know the more I think about last night's show, the more questions
arise.   What was really going on? We the audience paid big bucks 50
Euros + each and I for one would have had the same if not more pleasure
listening to Ms Peyroux's Cd's. I'm a live music fan. Tonight I was back at
the Olympia for Cesario Evora. (NO STAGE PRESENCE EITHER) For 50 euros
I want to be entertained. I want to interact in the live arena. I certainly
don't want to replicate the CD experience.

So what was actually the problem last night? Am I alone in this view?

First of all they were under amplified for the hall. I don't need loud but I
need a proper fill, I was down stairs midway back on the right. No excuse.
Was there a monitor problem the made it difficult for M P to hear herself
is that why she was singing flat for parts of most of the songs?

Her vibe was as if the night was not so much as concert as a contractual
obligation. He voice was uneven, and her drummer did not exhibit the
finesse or vituosity to understand the fills of the music he was trying to
drive. The brass man was more accomplished but not focussed he would
solo and then kind of squeak to a muted full stop as the piano brought
the band and MP back. He acted surprised almost that the solo was over
so soon.

Beyond the complete lack of stage presence MP did not seem in charge
tonight, niether did any other of the assembled musicians, there was no
chef d'orchestre that night. Resulting in a"not" a tight set. I would love to
read other recent reviews and also to hear from any other reviews from
the next set of Paris gigs.

On an positive note the guitarist and pianist were way ahead in virtuosity
that the rest of the band. It made it very uneven.

Sincerely

Steven from Monaco

It was a great concert, the sound was good and not how you experienced it perhaps it's the size of the hall.It was another concert then i was used to go to, i mean it's no U2 Steely Dan or Flaco Jimenez, it is sit down and listen and maybe i went with the wrong expectation but after all i liked it.The pianist was great. By the way we payed 30 euro's.

Went to Edinburgh gig last night. Amazing performance - fragile, sensitive, unhurried, genuienly touched by the reception, superb musicianship - from a unique performer.

To Steven from Monaco - if  your review reflects your experience then I am sorry that it did not happen for you. Try connecting on the emotional side rather than a technical analysis based on ? level of expertise.
