I love Madi's CD's but I've been disappointed in her live performances (with the notable exception of the 1997 Montreal Jazz Festival). So I had sworn off going to any more concerts.
But I'm a wimp. I just bought four tickets in the fourth row for her Feb 20th appearance at the Mesa Arts Center in Arizona. It's a new venue that just opened last year and I've been wanting to check it out. I hope to be pleasantly surprised and totally entertained. Reports to follow the performance. Edited by saramadi |

At four rows away, maybe you should bring along a sign that she'll see that says (as you noted), "just keep singing...baby". Maybe then she'll abandon all that awkward, between song, obligatory rambling. |

Went to Madeleine's concert in Liverpool on Monday, and it was excellent. Felt she was not used to playing venues as big as our wonderful Philharmonic Hall - she seemed a little overawed, but was definitely committed to giving a top performance. MP and the band really swing together. She is superb on the acoustic guitar and the sound was rich and warm. Liked the commitment she showed to a local homeless charity. If I have any criticism, I think she needs to work on building a rapport with the audience. They were there for her, they were warm and appreciative, but they just needed her to open up and be a bit more giving. But the music made up for any shortcomings in the level of patter. Especially loved the lazy La Javanaise and, of course, Dance Me to the End of Love. Enjoy your tour Madeleine.

I have been a fan since the Lilith fair days (just after Dreamland) and i've
seen Madie five times. I have to agree with some of you that the DC performance was a bit bizzarre and made me feel uncomfortable. The best I ever saw Madie perform was two shows at the Tin Angel in Phillie with William Gallison playing guitar and a bunch of other instruments, and a bass and drums I think. She seemed confident, comfortable and brilliant at the two shows I saw there. Did anyone else see those shows? The CD they made together, "Got You On My Mind", is a gem, and it soundes like she did at those phille dates. I heard there was a lawsuit regarding that CD and that Madie and her record company are being sued for trying to have it taken out of stores Anybody else like that CD? Maybe she should start playing little clubs like the angel? Franco |

I never had the pleasure of seeing Madeliene play with William Galison but
I do have the CD they made together. I bought it at a Tower records just before they went under. The only thing I DONT like about it is the cover. It has a drawing of two people who i gues are supposed to be Madeleine and William but they look more like blobs. Maybe its my eyesight! I have all four of Madeleine's CD's and I have to say that I listen to this one as much as the others. Its a more upbeat recording, and Madeleine sounds like she's honestly having a good time. Its also not a "pure" Madleine Peyroux record, because there are a few songs where the harmonica is featured (it doesn't SOUND like a harmonica), and there's one song that Galison sings alone about a scorpion. (My six year old nephew likes that song the best!) but the seven or eight songs she songs on are great, and I like the way they sing togeher. Overall, I reccomend the CD to any Madeleine fan. The only problem is that its hard to find, I couldn't find it in the Borders nearby or any of the smaller shops. Borders said it was out of print, but obviously it isn't. Does anybody know if they ever perform together? I don't know what the lawsuit is all about, but they shure made a nice CD. That;s all for now, |

Well, William and Madeleine definitely do NOT perform together anymore. The law suits are acrimonious and were much discussed here in the past.
The CD is, I agree, sublime. It is available at Amazon (in stock and ships next business day). It's also available at iTunes store and I'm sure it can also be found on eBay. I originally bought it on eBay from Wm Galison himself. Hey, RonJon, maybe I will bring a sign. Hey Doug, well maybe you can go with me. Are you single, in your 20's, and devilishly good looking?
