Here are quotes from various reviews of "Got You On My Mind".
I hope you find them enlightening. I'd love to hear some reviews from Madeleine's fans. I'm sure Madeleine would too. Thanks, William Galison "Got You On My Mind" offers a Madeleine Peyroux in a much more pure, unadulterated setting than she's been heard in before. Together with superb multi-instrumentalist William Gallison, Peyroux swings hard, and steps beyond the Billie Holiday shadow that can so overwhelm her music." Jason Koransky- Editor in Chief- Downbeat “Peyroux is already back, this time teamed up with an extraordinary hyphenate: singer-songwriter-producer- percussionist-harmonica player William Galison, on the multishaded Got You On my Mind (Waking Up). OK, so Got You on My Mind was recorded a full year before Love, but still: Peyroux and Galison are a match made in musical heaven, especially when they intertwine voices on the languorously sexy, co-written “Playin’” and a hymnlike “Heaven help Us All”. -Christopher Louden- JazzTimes “Galison and Peyroux are perfect musical accomplices, Galison’s exquisite harmonica work and guitar accompaniment perfectly complementing the elegant voice of Madeleine Peyroux. [Madeleine’s] work on this CD … is among the most natural performances and quite possibly the best recorded example of her vocal talents.” -Marshall Bowden- Jazzitude.com “Two of Peyroux’s vocals, “J’ai Deux Amours” and “Heaven to Me” also appear on Careless Love, with different arrangements and without Galison, of course. What this earlier recording offers, in addition to the smoky voice and driving rhythm guitar of Peyroux, is the unique and often breath-taking harmonica and swinging guitar solos of Galison…. And while “Heaven to Me” was one of my favorites of Peyroux’s set in Minneapolis last fall, the wonderful addition of the harmonica here makes heaven seem a little closer.” Andrea Canter- Jazzpolice.com “On Got You on My Mind, Peyroux utilizes her gorgeous voice to reinterpret several classics that were produced and arranged by William Galison. … In short, Got You On My Mind is a romantic collaboration between two immensely-talented artists who will hopefully join forces again in the future. “ -Musicbox.com “No matter what Peyroux does from this point on, she'll be hard-pressed to come up with anything more engaging or charming than her effort with Galison, Got You on My Mind. This hip, yet retro-sounding 11-song CD is an eclectic collection of songs made famous by everyone from Josephine Baker to the Beatles to Stevie Wonder -- as well as three originals co-penned by Galison and Peyroux. ……While Peyroux is a known commodity, it is Galison who is the revelation, playing no less than seven instruments throughout the record and proving himself to be a more-than-capable singer in his own right.” Nicole Pensiero- Popmatters.com “The trippy, cinematic journey that is William Galison and Madeleine Peyroux's new album, Got You On My Mind, opens with the bright, swinging glee of “Back In Your Own Backyard.” It sways through the happily plaintive “J'ai Deux Amours,” swaggers through a Charlie Chaplin-in-Technicolor ”Rag For Madi,” and continues on this diversely scenic escapade for eleven deeply touching tracks.” < |

Dear Rich,
Three weeks ago I requested that you post the URL's to these reviews on the madeleinepeyroux.org website. You answered that you were very busy and that you would post them as soon as possible. Somehow during this same period you have had the time to post new reviews of "Careless Love", reviews of Madeleine's shows and other information and updates, but you have still not posted the reviews of GYOMM. You have often said that you are entirely neutral regarding "Got You On My Mind". Can you please explain why updating information about GYOMM is your lowest priority on this website? Thanks very much, William Galison Edited by willgalison |

Here's a nice quote from PlayNetwork, who supply the in-house
music for Starbucks and many other retail stores around the world. Starbucks is playing SIX songs from "Got You On My Mind" in all of the Starbucks stores worldwide. I was told that it was extremely rare to have six songs from one CD played in- store, and that only Sinatra, Ray Charles and a few others share that distiction. Unfortunately, GYOMM is not sold at Starbucks, but the good news is that it helps sell "Careless Love" (from which only four songs are played.) "Hi William! My name is Jeff Heiman and I am the Sr. Director of Licensing & Label Relations for PlayNetwork, Inc. We work with Starbucks on the music they use on their overhead program for their stores around the world. They have fallen in love with your CD with Madeleine Peyroux...I think that your CD will get a lot of interest. It's so lovely. I wanted to officially let you know that the songs that will be used in the Starbucks stores are: J'ai Deux Amours (GYOMM version) Flambee Montalbanese Got You On My Mind Jealous Guy The Way You Look Tonight Playin' Congratulations on producing such a beautiful record. Review from Nightflying.com by Doug Treadway
GOT YOU ON MY MIND William Galison & Madeleine Peyroux Waking Up This is one of the better albums to cross my desk in a while. There are originals and covers, all done in high style. Madeleine Peyroux sings most of the songs, showing both great flexibility and talent. She sounds a lot like Billie Holiday on a couple of cuts, with a wise but world-weary take on the vicissitudes of life and love. She also plays a mean guitar. Galison also sings and plays guitar and harmonica; his re- telling of the fable of the frog and the scorpion is a hoot and includes Carly Simon as the voice of the scorpion. There is a French chanson that sounds as if it belongs on an album of Old West ballads and a couple of nice instrumentals. Recorded in New York, this is one of those rare collections that covers a lot of ground without a single stumble. If you like variety in your music, I think you’ll find a lot to like about this effort. |

Hello! Thanks to a newsy e mail mail from a nifty record shop in
Shawnee, Kansas I was made aware of GOT YOU ON MY MIND. What an absolute breath of fresh air! Madeleine came to Portland, OR twice last year. My friends & I enjoyed her immensely! Imagine how tickled we would have been had William Galison been able to appear with her! This is one marvelous record. As I 1st time visitor to this forum I must say I'm disappointed in the rather mean spirited comments from members of the staff at Rounder Records. To you folks I say, GOT YOU ON MY MIND is one terrific recording! You do a diservice to your artist with those negative remarks. The month of August finds lots of birthdays for me to celebrate. My lucky friends will each get a copy of this most enjoyable set! Madeleine & William, Bravo, you!! Edited by ramesse |

The version of "Flambee Montalbanaise" is superb. Has Mr. Galison
heard the sung version of this tune on the "Paris Musette" recordings
from La Lichere?
